Can I choose a specific instructor for lessons?

Due to the large number of children in lessons, the scheduling is difficult. As a result, requests for specific instructors for specific times cannot always be accommodated. All of our instructors are fully qualified to deliver all Lifesaving Society and Royal Lifesaving courses.

What system of swimming levels is used at LSPA?

Lessons are taught according to the Lifesaving Society system. The lifeguards will be able to tell you how these levels are evaluated and where your child should be placed if you are new to this system.

What about lessons for older children?

LSPA offers all three Bronze swimming levels, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, and Bronze Cross. They are offered twice during the summer. Please refer to the schedule for dates and times. The lifeguards will be able to explain the requirements for these levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

General

Where do my membership fees go?

The biggest expense for the pool is the lifeguard staff. Next is regular maintenance of the pool itself, which includes opening and closing of the pool, chemical supplies, repair and upkeep of the pumps and other equipment. Other expenses include insurance, utilities, and supplies. Money is set aside for capital improvement to the facility.

Who oversees the operation of the pool

The volunteer board of Directors and hired staff for the season.

Why is volunteering important at LSPA?

Volunteers are extremely important at the pool. All positions on the Board are volunteer, and much effort goes into making the pool run smoothly and into keeping the fees as low as possible. Many jobs are done by volunteers, from managing the canteen to cleaning the grounds, painting the pool, negotiating insurance contracts and doing the banking, to name just a few. The pool always needs help, so don't hesitate to get involved. It can be a very rewarding experience, you get to meet lots of great people, and it helps to keep membership fees low.

How often is the water tested?

The pool water is tested a minimum of 3 times a day, and on busy days it is tested every 2 hours. This meets public health standards for such a pool. If there is any doubt about the safety of the water the pool is closed until the problem is dealt with.

Safety And Behavior

What are the safety rules at the pool?

Safety rules are posted at the pool. Please read and follow these rules. Specific rules for the diving area are posted near the diving boards. The lifeguards have final authority in all matters regarding pool safety and the behaviour of all members and guests in the pool area.

What qualifications do the lifeguards have?

All lifeguards have National Lifeguard certification and Instructors qualifications.

Are there special rules for the wading pool?

A lifeguard is not posted in the baby pool. Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring the safety of their own children and must be present in the baby pool area at all times. During a shift change, a lifeguard will pass through the area. The gates to the baby pool must be kept closed at all times.

Are floating toys from home permitted in the pool?

No, but many floating toys are available at the pool, and the lifeguards will be happy to get them for you. On occasional days other toys are permitted at the discretion of the guards. These days will be posted at the pool.

Is there a policy on taking diaper-aged children in the pool and the baby pool?

Disposable diapers designed for swimming are the only diapers allowed in the pool.
